Film director brings it home

Gay Aussie director Tony Ayres is bringing his newest film, Home Song Stories, to the upcoming Sydney Film Festival.

His most successful film to date, 2002’s Walking On Water, won five AFI awards. Walking On Water concerned the death of a man with AIDS and how his friends reacted.

His new work -“ to be screened at the State Theatre on 9 and 13 June -“ focuses on Shanghai nightclub singer Rose and what happens when she moves to Australia with her husband and children. Rose is played by actor Joan Chen, recently seen in the acclaimed comedy Saving Face playing the unmarried pregnant mother of a closeted lesbian daughter.
