Firies to march at Mardi Gras
On Saturday, more than 100 firefighters and staff from Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) will once again take part in Sydney’s Mardi Gras parade – supported by Commissioner Greg Mullins, who will also participate.
Commissioner Mullins said the Mardi Gras parade was a great way for FRNSW to demonstrate its commitment to creating a diverse, inclusive and respectful workplace.
“As an organisation, it is important that we create a workforce that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve and one that respects people for the skills and knowledge they bring to FRNSW. As Commissioner, I want to show that I support people from all sorts of backgrounds, beliefs and lifestyles becoming firefighters, because they enrich our organisation.”
The FRNSW contingent will also be supported by Paulini, in keeping with the theme of her new single Fireman.
Senior Firefighter Bronnie Mackintosh said it was great to see FRNSW embracing diversity.
“I’ve been a firefighter for 10 years now and over the years I have seen so many positive changes in the organisation. It is really encouraging to see that fire fighting is now seen as a viable career for women, which means there are more women coming through the ranks.
“The fact that FRNSW is actively supporting diversity in the workforce can only be a positive thing for the organisation and the community.”
FRNSW will join a number of other emergency services in this year’s parade, including the Ambulance Service of NSW, the NSW State Emergency Service and the NSW Rural Fire Service.
