Fruits mark 15th anniversary

Around 270 people celebrated the 15th birthday of Sydney Gay & Lesbian Business Association’s (SGLBA) Fruits in Suits at Water Bar at the Blue Hotel.

There was cake from Gaycakes and wonderful prizes from the likes of travel partner, Out Travel New Theatre, the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Flowers by Fruit and Blue Hotel.

SGLBA president Paul Lee-Maynard thanked guests for their ongoing support of the event, noting in particular the attendance of former president and Fruits in Suits creator Simon Davies, who was in town from South Africa.

Davies paid tribute to the original team behind the event and stressed that it is the community’s support of the event that has kept it strong all these years.

Vice-president and Fruits in Suits director Mark Haines observed what a feat it was for any event to run every month for 15 years. In fact there have now been around 180 Fruits in Suits events!

All in all, a wonderful night was had by all. It was particularly pleasing to welcome back those long-time SGLBA members who hadn’t attended for some time.

Be sure to read all about the special Fruits with a Twist event we have planned for you this month.
