Gay resort sponsors local footy team

In times past it would be an unlikely move, but popular Queensland gay and lesbian holiday spot Turtle Cove Resort is set to become a sponsor of a local AFL club.
According to AFL Cairns team, the Port Douglas Crocs, it’s the first time they’ve received support from a gay-friendly business and they’re not batting an eyelid.
“For us, Turtle Cove is just another sponsor, no different to any of the others,” Crocs president Scott Ewart told The Cairns Post.
“We’re not prejudicial to anyone. They’re a business just like any other in Port Douglas.”
Known internationally as a gay holiday hotspot, Turtle Cove Resort has recently been taken over by new owners Kelvin and Jacinta Banks who said the football sponsorship was about breaking down barriers.
Turtle Cove general manager Ian Crute said he thought there would be no problem with the locals as Port Douglas is “a pretty gay-friendly town”.
