Greens aged care amendment fails

An attempt by Greens senator Kerry Nettle to amend a federal law to recognise gays and lesbians in aged care failed this week.

Nettle attempted to amend the Aged Care Amendment (Residential Care) Bill to ensure same-sex couples were recognised in it, particularly in regards to having the value of their family home exempted from means testing when applying for a residential place.

The government refused the amendments and passed their original bill.
