Groovin’ on the grass

Looking for something different this Anzac long weekend? Well, it’s all about punting, good music, and looking like royalty at Randwick Racecourse.

If you’re over sweaty shirtless dancers and the suit life is calling, you need to investigate the festivities at this year’s Lawn Party on Saturday 26 April.

It’s centred on Emirates Doncaster Day which features the David Jones Australian Derby. The event is set to showcase some of the country’s finest live artists and DJs across two massive stages, including The Potbelleez, Vandalism, Van She and The Cassette Kids.

Food lovers will be able to enjoy the various gourmet selections on offer as well as marquees offering different beverages.

Vandalism band member Cassie said punters can expect a bit of country and western mixed in with some polka and polished off with some crazy electro action. They also promised to sing their big hits including Never Say Never and Creeps.

Hopefully some songs that breathe some summer nostalgia into the autumn air before winter sets in for real, Tomek from Van She added.

We’ll be playing some tracks like Kelly, which people might remember from our first record, but a lot of our set will be new songs from our record coming out in July so it’s more like a preview than a retrospective.

If you get up for the dawn service on the Friday and then warm up into a marching kind of mood you can march yourself around all day, all Friday night and straight through the gates to salvation at the Lawn Party on Saturday.

Gates open at 11:30am. Tickets are $165 + BF inclusive of racecourse entry, food, beverages, entertainment and trackside viewing. Bookings on 132 849 or www.ticketek.com.
