New gay and lesbian travel guides to Sydney and Queensland were launched on 22 January by the shadow tourism minister, Senator Kerry O’Brien. Published by Gay Travel Guides, the Sydney Gay And Lesbian Visitor’s Guide and the Queensland Gay And Lesbian Visitor’s Guide can be downloaded from www.gaytravelguides.info or picked up at bookstores, gyms and caf?around town. Gay Travel Guides publisher Dominic O’Grady said the guides provide queer visitors with essential information on where to stay, what to do, nightlife and community events.

The Queensland guide covers some obvious territory, like tropical North Queensland and Noosa, but there are also some great stories in there about cruising the Whitsundays, partying on the Gold Coast, and chilling out on Fraser Island.

The Sydney guide pretty much provides everything you’d want to know as a first-time or repeat visitor: where the clubs are, how to get out and enjoy the harbour, info about Mardi Gras and other community events, and a totally biased list of the city’s favourite drag queens. It’s absolutely essential to know such things. These guides allow visitors to become insiders in a matter of minutes, O’Grady said.
