Katter to speak at MCC

Federal independent MP Bob Katter’s half-brother Carl Katter will speak at Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) Sydney’s Christmas Eve service.

Now in its second year back at the Sydney Town Hall, service coordinator P J Dwyer told the Star Observer MCC Sydney was excited to host Katter as the keynote speaker.

“Whether he talks about his personal journey or the broader marriage equality debate, we feel he’ll bring a lot of wisdom to the event,” Dwyer said.

“It will be a free community event, celebrating Christmas and having a good old-fashioned carols singalong in a wonderful venue.”

Carl Katter made headlines earlier this year, when he publicly reprimanded his half-brother’s “hurtful” views on marriage equality. Since then Carl Katter has continued his advocacy for same-sex marriage, appearing at protest rallies and also on Australian Marriage Equality’s I Do video campaign.

Starting at 8pm, performers at the service include the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Choir, the Homotones, singer Justin J Bear and Reverend Gavin Ward playing the organ. Dwyer also said carollers could expect some changes to the service format.
