If good sex could be bottled and sold, not only would we all be smiling 24/7 but some bastard would be rich beyond belief. Sex is a huge issue for gay men and, being guys and all, you’d think we’d have it figured. Not so.
TV’s Queer As Folk had Brian getting all nude’n’naughty with some new god-like man each night. Erections were never a problem, lube was never in question. And silly issues like morning breath or bowel movements were mere fantasy.
Let us be frank, sex can sometimes be a rather complicated and embarrassing issue, especially in areas such as anal sex.
Though considered the most popular sexual activity amongst gay men, it is also one of the most difficult, with the mere thought being both arousing and terrifying to some.
No matter how nice your rear may be, we all use it for the same thing.
So, should you wish to assure yourself of a poo-free romp, buy yourself a douche. It’s such a simple device that’ll clear you out better than a box of All Bran (it’s usually stocked next to the dildos at the porn shop).
Another sad misconception, mostly among tops, is that sex should always be hard, rough and fast. While Elizabeth Berkley may have appeared to have enjoyed it in Showgirls, real life dictates another story.
Good sex should be a more prolonged experience, especially if things are a little tight. Going in too fast, too soon, is going to hurt a lot, and turn some away from anal sex altogether.
And then there’s the matter of that other personal hygiene, body odour.
Some people will claim the smell of a tradesman after a hard day’s work is hot. Well, not when you’re giving head or rimming him. Of course, lathering up together in the shower can be the perfect answer.
No-one can ever really be a master of all things sex, as one’s needs are often constantly changing. The best way to keep things fresh in the bedroom is to have a good understanding of each other’s likes and dislikes, mutual respect for one another’s boundaries, while never fearing to try anything once.
And, of course, remembering to keep it clean while you’re getting down and dirty.
