Leaving the island

Leaving the island

As I was told by my girlfriend, Verushka Darling, my sands of time are shifting, though I have to say I’m now more of a four-minute egg-timer than your two-minute variety.

It was my birthday on Sunday -” another year seems to have flown past at a million miles an hour. Just yesterday I was packing my things and heading for the big smoke, hoping all my dreams would come true, a bright-eyed bushy-tailed gay boy, a virgin to high heels, wig or makeup, not really knowing what Sydney had in store for me.

As I snuggled with my puppy Maxwell under the doona last Sunday while the rain fell outside, I did the customary soul searching. What have I done with my life? I asked myself, and the answer was: many Mardi Gras and Sleaze Ball shows, the closing of the Olympics, the opening of the Gay Games, working at some of the leading gay and lesbian venues in Australia and gaining some of the best mates I could ask for.

Not bad for only 34 years old, though with the audiences getting so much younger, it does feel like I was born when dinosaurs roamed the earth.

Well, my little old life is about to turn a new chapter. In just a few days I will be boarding a plane and heading to Europe with the Sydney Convicts.

It’s hard to curb my excitement. I’m working every day till I board, but it’s hard not think, This time next week I will be in Ireland.

And I’m not the only one who hasn’t left the island yet. So many others are jumping out of their skins, saying, If Maxi can do it, then it’s not impossible.

So what the hell will I be doing over in Ireland and London? Firstly I will be filing daily reports from the sidelines, not as a sport writer (I’m not the sportiest girl) but as a bright-eyed spectator and supporter, letting you know blow by blow of the ins and outs of the tour. With 50 international rugby teams, and the Convicts taking 50 players, a team of 20 supporters and one cross-dresser, I’m positive there will be a little bit of fun.

Also, my room has a spa, where the rules are, My spa, my rules: bathers optional. My waterproof camera will come in handy for these times -” all pictures will be posted as soon as they are downloaded.

With my sleeping tablets and carry-on luggage all organised, it’s now just the waiting game.

For all the birthday wishes I received and the sea of gifts, thank you, you didn’t have to, but I will take them anyway. To my fabulous friends, thank you for being idiots with me.

You will be able to read what is happening on the tour at ssonet.com.au. I will be doing my best to get as many sexy pictures as I can.

What happens on tour, stays on tour.

Oh, and to my new boyfriend, I promise nothing is going to happen.
