Openly gay South Sydney councillor Shayne Mallard will head a Liberal Party ticket for the Sydney City Council elections in March.

Although Mallard has not yet been formally endorsed by the party, he will contest the lord mayoralty under a campaign slogan of “You can’t trust Labor”.

There are no Liberals on the current Sydney City Council, but the conservatively aligned councillors Kathryn Greiner and Nick Farr-Jones will be retiring at the 27 March election.
