Mardi Gras float help

New Mardi Gras is offering some valuable extra resources to help this year’s parade entrants design and prepare their floats.

The organisation has secured a workshop space in Rosebery  to provide groups with a space to construct their parade entries. The workshop opens for business on February 7 and is available  until March 3.

Opening hours are between 7.30am and 4pm every weekday plus late nights on Wednesday until  8pm and on Saturdays from 10am – 6pm.

Space is limited so community groups will be given preference and those wishing to make use of the warehouse should make immediate contact with Phoebe Meredith on [email protected] or phone 02 9568 8621.

The competition to create the most spectacular parade floats can be a little daunting for some groups so for the first time this year Mardi Gras are also providing technical support and creative advice to help entrants get their creative juices flowing and provide a little expertise in making it happen.

The experts will be on hand to help at the workshop every Wednesday from 4pm-8pm and every Saturday from 10am ’til 6pm.

I’m excited to see the flow of entrants coming forward for the Parade Mardi Gras chair David Imrie said.

These two new initiatives being launched today should help ensure that the theme of this years Parade, Nations United, is brought to life in the flamboyant style that has made Mardi Gras famous the world over.

To enhance the Nations United theme, Mardi Gras, are keen to assist any national or ethnic groups who would like to participate in the parade on March 7.

Any groups or individuals who would like to join this sea of national costumes and flags should contact New Mardi Gras at [email protected] and check out the Mardi Gras website www.mardigras.org.au/parade for further information and help about the Nations United theme and the Parade Entry Guide.

  1. We have used the workshop in the past for our floats and found it extraordinarily helpful (especially the drop down saw). There is only so much space in a small house to construct 12 giant handbags! This is a great initiative. Well done.
