Martina makes cut over Kylie

Kylie Minogue has been snubbed in a list of 60 gay and lesbian icons featured in an exhibition at the London National Portrait Museum to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall riots.

Australian activist Peter Tatchell did make the list in recognition of his one-man attempts to make a citizen’s arrest of Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe. Tennis legend Martina Navratilova (pictured) also made the final cut.

Chosen by a panel of openly gay public figures, including Sir Elton John and Billie Jean-King, ubiquitous entrants on the gay and lesbian icon lists -” the Minogues, Judy Garland and Oscar Wilde -” were omitted to make room for a more diverse spread of figures.
