Moore wins Town Hall

Long time gay and lesbian rights advocate Clover Moore is the new Lord Mayor of Sydney, after a convincing win at the weekend.

Moore received more than 40 percent of votes cast on Saturday, almost double those received by ALP candidate Michael Lee.

On Monday morning eight of the 10 available positions on the City of Sydney’s council had been decided.

Moore’s team had won at least four, and possibly five positions. The ALP won two, with former South Sydney Mayor Tony Pooley battling for a spot. Greens Lord Mayoral candidate Chris Harris secured a position, as did the Liberal party’s Shayne Mallard.

Gay guesthouse owner and heritage advocate Phillip Black, who ran as the fifth candidate on Moore’s ticket, could take up the last position on council.
