ACON has again expressed concern about possible violence following media coverage of beats after a local newspaper in south-western Sydney published an article this week naming several of the gay meeting points.

A week after The Sydney Morning Herald published, then removed a list of beats in central Sydney, the Macarthur Chronicle in Camden printed a similar story, naming a number of beats.

ACON Lesbian and Gay Anti-Violence Project coordinator Carl Harris said the Camden story could increase the risk of violence against gay men.

But he praised police sources quoted in the article who said they would not target beats without specific complaints.
