Naked in Berlin

Naked in Berlin

What is your event about?

Naked Berlin -“ The Liberal Capital is a unique photographic exhibition using six naked male models in front of various Berlin landmarks. This includes nudes inside Germany’s parliament building, the historic Reichstag. The purpose was to reveal modern Germany as liberal and its capital as a tolerant and laidback metropolis. In addition to this quirky series I’m also bringing to Australia a number of my signature images.

Why naked men?

As a professional photographer the naked form has always been my passion. However, I don’t just photograph naked men. My oldest model to date has been a 108-year-old woman.

What are you looking forward to seeing in the festival?

Finding new models (both female and male) for some of my upcoming projects is a very good reason to ensure that I get out and enjoy as many festival events as possible.

What is your favourite Mardi Gras memory?

It would have to be my first Mardi Gras dance party in 1997. Can you believe I was wearing nothing but a pair of original Bavarian Lederhosen (short leather pants)?

What does Mardi Gras mean to you?

Unexpectedly bumping into old friends who I might have last seen in Cologne, Los Angeles, London or Cuba. The incredible thing is that it seems quite normal to see such a very international crowd here in Sydney during Mardi Gras.

Naked Berlin -“ The Liberal Capital can be seen from Tuesday 15 February until Saturday 26 February (Tuesday to Saturday, 11am-6pm) at the Beatty Gallery, 214 Liverpool Street, East Sydney. Admission is free. Phone 9360 4244 or www.henning-von-berg.com.

Henning von Berg will discuss the classic poses of nude photography with a slideshow at Flinders Hotel, 24 February, 6pm.
