New dawn for Imperial
The Imperial Hotel in Erskineville -“ spiritual home of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert -“ has a new owner. Last week Arq licensee Shadd Danesi bought the hotel for an undisclosed sum. It’s a gay icon and has to be kept in the gay direction, Danesi told the Star this week, allaying any concern that the pub would lose its gay identity. He said it was his intention to maintain the shows for which the pub is famous but he would be looking at refurbishing the hotel bar by bar. Danesi also owns the Sly Fox Hotel in Enmore and will retain his interest in Arq.
