ADELAIDE’S FEAST CALLS FOR EVENTS

The Feast Festival for queer culture in the city of churches has called for events for its 11th year. Organisers have announced the theme will be love. It is a theme that the community can dissect, celebrate, discuss and debate -“ and also one that all people can relate to, but which allows the LGBTIQ community to celebrate the diverse and wonderful ways in which it loves. They called on artists and companies who work in theatre, film, visual arts, literature, music and drag to register before 20 July online at www.feast.org.au or on 08 8231 2155. Early bird registrations close 29 June.

FORUM FOR QUEER FAMILIES

Families are invited to join a community forum to discuss issues facing gay and lesbian families in the inner west and western Sydney. The forum is part of research for a Family and Sexuality educational DVD funded by Marrickville Council and produced with the University of Western Sydney. The focus is to increase awareness of the concerns, needs and equity issues and discuss how gay and lesbian families would like to see themselves represented on DVD. The forum is being held on Tuesday 8 May, 6pm-8pm, at Children’s Services Central, Hut 21, 142 Addison Road, Marrickville. For further information contact Cristyn Davies on [email protected] or 9772 6574.

BENT ART IN BLUE MOUNTAINS

Gay and lesbian artists with a connection to the Blue Mountains are being invited to submit works for an exhibition of Bent Art to be held over the June long weekend. Cash prizes totalling $1,200 will be awarded for works in a variety of media, including paintings, drawings, photographs, mixed media, ceramics and sculptures. The exhibition is now into its third year, attracting diverse crowds, which the organisers hope will let established and emerging local artists gain exposure and publicity for their work. For more information email [email protected] or call 4782 7589.

PET PARTNERS

The Delta therapy dogs program is calling for more volunteers and their pet dogs to sign up to provide companionship visits to adult and children’s hospitals, nursing homes, primary schools and mental health units around Australia. One volunteer Tony Steiner and his pet dog Spud who volunteers at St Vincent’s said it was one of the most rewarding things he has ever done. People interesting in volunteering may contact Maria Capito on 9231 3218.
