Outgames opening previewed

Outgames organisers have given the gay sporting public a sneak peek at the massive celebration that will open the sporting event in two weeks’ time.

The Governor of Victoria, Professor David De Kretser AC, will officially declare the 1st Asia Pacific Outgames open in front of the thousands of participants, volunteers and spectators who have come from all over the world to play with their neighbours in Melbourne.

Following the official presentation will be performances inspired by ancient and contemporary dance, martial arts and exotic ritual from around the Asia Pacific.

The Opening Celebration will see the crowd of participants and supporters entertained by an array of live musicians, with inspiring performances, fabulous DJs and more.

One highlight of the Opening Celebration will be a surprise performance from the cast of Priscilla Queen of the Desert, The Musical.

All registered participants and accredited volunteers will have free access to the Opening Celebration. Guests who purchase the value-packed $20 ticket will be seated in the upper stalls of Town Hall from 7pm.

“This one-night-only event is the meeting point of the Outgames’ three areas of sport, culture and human rights,” Outgames co-convenor Peter Sagar said.

“It’s one hell of a show for $20 so get your ticket and welcome the world.”

The Opening Celebration is onThursday 31 January from 7.30pm at Melbourne Town Hall, Swanston St, Melbourne.
