Oxford Hotel hires new security team

Management at the Oxford Hotel has changed its security after a man was assaulted and robbed in the venue’s toilets.
Mike Bartsch was using the hotel toilets earlier this month when two men demanded his cash and credit cards, while a third kept watch at the bathroom door.
The shaken victim alerted security to the incident, identifying two of the offenders, who were about to exit the hotel.
The security guard “did not do much except talk into a walkie talkie”, Bartsch later told police.
Before the men had a chance to escape, Bartsch approached them himself. A scuffle ensued and punches were thrown.
Security delayed the offenders at the door of the hotel, but released them a moment later.
Licensee and general manager of the Oxford Hotel, Robert Geammal, declined to comment on the incident, but said he had sacked the security guards involved and hired new security.
Bartsch’s partner Jacob Highams has advised everyone who frequents the Oxford to avoid entering the bathroom alone.
“Violence and robbery are sadly a fact of life and people need to be vigilant on the street,” he said.
“What is most upsetting though is that the security staff of the Oxford Hotel were unable to prevent this crime on their own premises and, worse, allowed them all to get away afterwards.”
The matter is being investigated by police.
