Pair humbled by community honour

About 200 people turned out to commemorate the achievements of tireless community workers Bruce Pollack and Peter Trebilco at this year’s ACON Honour event.

Between the two, there is nearly half a century of time dedicated to assisting community organisations. Pollack has worked as a PR and fundraising dynamo for almost every organisation in town, including ACON, Aurora, the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation and Sydney Star Observer, to name a few.

Trebilco is best known as the founder of CAMP NSW and for his role in starting up the Gay and Lesbian Counselling Service.

People descended upon the National Art School last Thursday to sip some wine, hear of Pollack’s and Trebilco’s experiences and empty out their pockets in the name of charity.

About $25,000 was raised on the evening through a combination of ticket prices and auction bids, which will be put towards a range of ACON initiatives.

ACON President Mark Orr said it was a pleasing night for all involved.

Honour 2008 was a great success. Friends and colleagues of both Bruce and Peter delivered moving tributes to the two men, whose acceptance speeches underscored the industry, dignity and compassion which have been hallmarks of their many years of service to the GLBT community, he said.

It was a wonderful night enjoyed by all who attended and we now look forward to making next year’s event even more successful.
