Perth Fairday a huge success

Thousands turned out for Saturday’s City of Perth Fairday in Russell Square, with organisers declaring the event a “huge success”.

“This year was the first time that Fairday was held on a Saturday and the crowd got right behind it,” Pride WA co-president Charles Denham said.

Community stalls were at a premium and after the sunny weather and 30 degree temperatures enjoyed at this year’s event, some stallholders have already booked spots for next year.

The theme for this year’s Pride WA has been family and youth. Families were entertained at Fairday by farm animals, circus workshops, clowns, face painting, a bouncing castle and much more.

Pride MC Swish kept crowds entertained between acts such as Dhavid Posselt, Nat Ripepi, DJ Johnnie P, Feminem, DJ Drew, Ash, Disco Incorrecto, DJ Timbee and the Gay and Lesbian Singers (GALS).

Pride WA’s media liaison Mark Hamer said  Fairday provided an opportunity for both the GLBTI community and gay-friendly straight people to catch up with friends and loved ones.

“The City of Perth Pride Fairday is always the ideal start to the Pride festivities,”  Hamer said.

“The entire community comes together to celebrate our Pride in a relaxed and festive setting that enables businesses, community groups and agencies to interact through stalls, events and ongoing entertainment.”

Hamer said the event was a wonderful family day out.

“The atmosphere was astounding and the crowd was well behaved,” he said.

The Pride WA Committee thanks all of its sponsors, supporters, members, volunteers and anyone else who got behind the 2010 City of Perth Fairday.
