Pigs fly for ACON (31/7/03)
It’s the newest fundraising initiative from the HIV sector and it’s deeply, deeply weird. ACON are asking community members to adopt specially-made cute piggy banks, available now from ACON, Aussie Boys and The Bookshop for a mere $20.
The project -“ presumably conceived by ACON’s Events Manager David Wilkins in a Saul-on-the-road-to-Damascus-like moment of inspiration -“ is designed to raise funds for ACON’s care and support project. Drag favourite Mitzi Macintosh has been brought on board as the campaign’s public face.
These adorable and cheeky piggybanks can be adopted for only $20. Pig parents receive adoption papers and regular emails alerting them to piggy news from the Makin’ Bacon Mistress, Mitzi Macintosh, Wilkins said. Mitzi and I are looking forward to having a bit of fun with the pigs and the more adoptive parents we can play with, the better!
Pig adopters who do as the campaign suggests and stuff their pig full of loose change will be invited to a special tea dance on the terrace at Home Nightclub on 14 December.
