PM accepts anti-marriage letter

Far right Christian group FamilyVoice Australia have handed an open letter signed by over 30,000 people to Prime Minister Julia Gillard at a community cabinet meeting in South Australia.

Gillard, who has refused all requests to meet with supporters of same-sex marriage, reportedly told representatives from FamilyVoice Australia – formerly known as the Festival of Light – that she greatly appreciated receiving the letter, which was signed by 32,297 people Australia wide, and reiterated her support for marriage remaining a heterosexual privilege

A covering letter to the Prime Minister read, “Thank you for your support of the true meaning of marriage as a man-woman union with the potential to produce children with both a mum and a dad.

“We want you to know that many other Australians from across the nation also applaud you for this stand.  We are enclosing an open letter 32,297 voters have signed, asking you to ensure that your government continues to uphold the true meaning of marriage – and we have attached a long list of all their names and postcodes.

“We can provide more details if required – the letters themselves would create a pile over four metres high.  We have enclosed a photo of some of our FamilyVoice workers with a pile of less than 20,000 signed letters to give you some idea.

“We have been overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response to our open letter.  It indicates that there is a strong groundswell of support for your views on marriage which is often not reported in the mainstream media.”

The Festival of Light in Australia was inspired by the infamous British anti-gay campaigner Mary Whitehouse, and its NSW branch was formerly headed by NSW Upper House MP, the Rev. Fred Nile.

The most recent edition of FamilyVoice Australia’s newsletter reads, “One of the most disconcerting items on the homosexual agenda is the demand for marriage rights for same-sex relationships.

“But the Orwellian attempt to equate same-sex relationships with traditional marriage is doomed from the outset. Homosexual marriage is simply an oxymoron. There are many reasons why this move to destroy marriage must be resisted.”

  1. @Peter. I agree with you. I pay ALOT of tax. Tax that funds these families. Funds that support single parents from BROKEN marriages, and some from no marriage. I’ve been funding the straight community for over 20 years. Is there some way I can sue the Australian Government for theft? I’m serious. I’ve had enough.

  2. They only had 30,000 signatures? Pft. I bet ours would be in the hundreds of thousands.

” with the potential to produce children with both a mum and a dad.” I’ll remember this next time I see my neighbour who has 3 children to 3 different fathers, all of whom are nowhere to be seen.

  3. Maybe it’s a good time to move to Canada or the UK. I’m becoming more and more disillusioned with this PM. Not more than the previous 10 PM’s though.

  4. @Dave

A large group of our strong and brave Lesbian sisters did occupy those offices in London thirty years ago and achieved world wide media attention.

Frankly, I’m fed-up with Heterosexuals stealing our Gay tax dollars to support their grasping life styles, occupying our spaces and beaches…AND OUR CHURCHES…claiming it all for themselves and their wholesome families, installing watchful, white-mans, Police Cameras to enforce their claims, and the sick belief that they own God.

This PC that our Gay leaders persue, has proven to be a waste of time… The only way to handle a mad dog is to put a muzzle on it.

Australia’s version of Apartheid at it’s best. They repeatedly dish it out to us, and we stupidly accept it as the norm.

Why don’t they just put up their invisible signs which say…

    NO DOGS OR GAY’S ALLOWED.

  5. We should invade the Births, Deaths and Marriage offices all over the country and chain ourselves to the furniture.

  6. Gillard has, once again, shown her true colours in agreeing to meet with anti-gay groups; yet consistently refusing to meet with people in favour of same-sex marriage.

For all his faults, at least Tony Abbott had the decency to meet with representatives from Australian Marriage Equality and listen to their case; not Gillard, she pretends we don’t even exist.

  7. Mark of Sydney:

“Secondly why is it, when their getting married everyone has to know about it, they’re so proud of it, they personally tell you with a smile when their getting married”

I hate always being invited to weddings where the invite NEVER has [name] + guest BUT it is ALWAYS a different story with other single straights there invite always seem to have + guest and I know this by talking to the “tag along” and asking how they know the bride and groom.

What’s even worse is at the wedding when its dancing time they all try to grab you on the dance floor and start “camping” it up to show the world how cool they are that they have a gay friend (they get rather shocked and a bit offended when you don’t get up and dance they really do because their narrow “party boy” image of you comes crushing down).

Yes I am hetrophobic. And YES I like talking about straight people like they are social parasites who are ruining our society. hahaha I make me laugh sometimes.

  8. lets face it…. the sad cow isnt even gonna see out the end of the year… her party will do to her what she did to Rudd… and oh what a day that will be…a whole nation telling her to f*ck off! cant wait!

  9. The quest for equality is about living as freely as the next person- to be treated equally before the law. We will accept nothing more and want nothing less.

The Greens are the only party in power that supports and advocates for equality.

  10. I think that supporting or not supporting gay marriage is a choice that a politician can make. However, accepting a meeting sought through the correct channels with no ill intent, other than the intent to propose a change in that politicians position on an issue in a polite calm way,is not right.
Gay people like me pay taxes and deserve access to the mechanisms of government supported by those taxes as long as they intend to act lawfully and respectfully.

  11. It’s very disturbing to hear the Zealots/Church Leaders rant & rave on about “Marriage being Sacred” and its only reserved “For them” they take vows, promise this & that, spend big on tacky wedding with the usual beef or chicken dinner that doesn’t even touch the side etc, then a year or two later you about them getting divorced.
As hetro’s constantly want us reminded that marriage is just for them,we should positivly turn round and remind them that there’s a 50% chance that they will be divorced before they have even run in their toaster/kettle from Target.
Secondly why is it,when their getting married everyone has to know about it,their so proud of it,they personaly tell you with a smile when their getting married,BUT when their getting divorced, you hear through a friend/family memember/associate.
I think the Gay community can do something better then that, thanks

  12. The point of having gay marriage legalised is not to force homosexuals to get married, it’s just so that they can have the option. I’m bi-sexual and I don’t really care whether or not I get married or not, a civil union is fine by me, but the point is if I end up with another woman I’d at least like to know that I have the same right to choose to get married as I do with a man.

  13. I would propose creating, and send to Mz Gillard, our own open letter project. Let us make it clear to her the right of choice is not a limited privilege of those born heterosexual. There are those, both homosexual and heterosexual, who chose not to marry. For example Oliver and Mz Gillard. We should take positive action rather than passively allow a “chosen” few to dictate the validity of our humanity and our rights.

  14. what an appalling head of Govt. How pathetic is Gillard’s resolve in the face of so many Western Countries that Australia enjoys relationships with, yet on the subject of Same Sex Unions or Marriage, under Gillard’s outdated n unjust personal views, we are all suffering out true rights as humans!

  15. ‘she greatly appreciated receiving the letter, which was signed by 32,297 people Australia wide, and reiterated her support for marriage remaining a heterosexual privilege’ however what about the opinion of the other 22.6 MILLION Australians who she refuses the opportunity to voice their opinions? Who exactly does a Prime Minister represent? She is supposed to represent the entire country not a small bigoted minority. Unfortunately in Australia there is no Prime Ministerial candidate either side of politics who supports gay marriage. Australia used to be a country which lead the world in social values however its now back to the 1950’s like John Howard wanted it to be no matter who is in power. Sad state of affairs. Rise up gay aussies! Where are the marches outside parliament we saw in the 90’s against discrimination?

  16. You get what you give Julia… Just remember when the next election comes around. You’ve shown hate and that’s exactly what you’ll get back.

  17. I have never been more dissapointed in our country:-( this descision should be made by the peopleot by a select few of homophobic closed minded people.

  18. This is horrible.
Reiterating the fact that Gillard is running the show based on her personal values.
    …Disgust, disdain, whatever….
Gillard, you suck go run your bigotry machine at the bottom of the ocean

    Sincerely,

    Josh

  19. Julia Gillard = bigoted trash. So glad Labor are languishing in the polls. Then we have Abbott, the man that will ruin Australia if he becomes PM. I guess we are spoilt for choice huh. Im seriously considering moving to Spain or maybe Vancouver, somewhere where my rights are respected and gay marriage is practically a non-issue. Fuck Australia and the people in it. I dont want my tax money going towards this backward hellhole any more.

  20. Im Gay and Im not a supporter of Gay Marriage. When people out there force marriage down my throat, I take issue.

  21. These poison-pen-people have hijacked the word Christian to suit their own perverted ends, and that is to divide this once wonderful nation.

They have captured Heaven for themselves, and given Jesus a bad name.

Julia Gillard will be given the boot soon, and so will rabbit Abbott, so we must keep the Greens and the Independents in power for as long as possible. Let us Gay citizens show what power we really have.

  22. The worst part is thousands of LGBTQI people support the Labor party out of some misguided belief that the voiceless minority of ALP ministers will deliver marriage equality against the righter-than-right head and shoulders of the current ALP regime. Where will the ALP head get support from? The Opposition, of course. Where would the real power lie in levering equality through? On the cross bench, of course …. but so many of the gay community ignorantly turn their backs on Independents and Greens. If that’s you, then you’ve bought a lie. If you support same sex marriage, next time you have Independents or Greens running at Local, State or Federal level, get off your Lab/Lib high horses …

  23. If justice is about numbers, we have hunreds of thousands attend our events. But it is about Gillard doing great Evil to you, and siding with hate groups to abuse you and deny you your Civil Rights.

  24. Gillard will not be remembered well by history … the sooner she is consigned to it the better.

  25. I thought our politicians were supposed to support fairness and equality for every Australian and not be guided by bigotry and hate?
