Polly wants a backer

Polly wants a backer

Everything old is new again. That is how the song goes. And it seems that is the way the majority of Sydney’s oldest landmarks are going. It’s nip, tuck, re-tile and concrete as far as the eye can see everywhere around the city. We’re experiencing the beautification of Oxford St at the moment. God, isn’t it going to be good when it is finished? And if you say it enough times, you can sort of believe it. If you try hard enough.

Luna Park got the royal treatment and has come out of it smelling of roses, shining brightly from the other side of the bridge. Most of us see only a brief glimpse of it as we quickly shuffle into the darkness of Toybox but it’s beautiful all the same.

Even DIVA legend Carlotta got the once-over, going in as the Carlotta we were all used to and loved, and emerging as this young sexy siren we hardly recognised. Looking half her age, this sexy new sheila is swishing around town, proving the old saying, if you’ve got it, flaunt it.

Now it is time to turn our attention to an old landmark that needs some tender loving care. After many years of supporting the community through endless charity fundraisers and benefits this old girl needs a helping hand -“ not a finger but a hand. The old grey mare needs a new smile.

I am talking about DIVA Hall of Famer and fucking legend, Polly Petrie. We all know who Polly is -“ if you don’t you have probably been working stock on some outback cattle station or living on the moon. So for those who don’t know her, I will be quick. Polly for the last 5,000 years has performed around Sydney, not only as a showgirl but many moons ago as a male dancer. She has raised thousands of dollars for any charity that asks her. Whether it is rattling a bucket or giving young showgirls a go, Polly is always there.

This Sunday, Stonewall will be holding a benefit to put back her smile. Starting at 5:30pm Polly’s Follies will see the cream of Sydney’s showgirls try to give back the smile that Polly has given us over the years. Now it is all a donation, but we are hoping for $5 at the door or if you feel really adventurous you can sponsor a whole tooth by yourself. It should be lots of fun and it’s helping someone who is very dear to all of us.

EYESPY Which two young showgirls have decided to take the next step in their relationship? It seems that they are very chalk and cheese (or is it cheese sandwich?) but I think they look beautiful together. Congrats, Charisma and Benita, you both make such a happy couple.

We are back. The DIVA-winning cast of Glamorous Clowns will return to Saturday nights at Stonewall. Vanity, Stacii and I will grace the stage once again on 3 December. See you there!
