Raymonda

Raymonda

A film star who marries a prince -“ no matter how tiny his kingdom -“ is a chocolate-box type of story ripe for ballet.

Choreographer Stephen Baynes uses the Grace Kelly story to replace the idiotic medieval one in the original Raymonda, staged in 1898 by the great but aging Russian choreographer Petipa. Aleksandr Glazunov’s lovely score is retained but here translated to the glamour world of 1950s Hollywood, Monaco palaces and flouncy cocktail dresses.
