The Sunday after Sleaze is traditionally one of the biggest days for business on the gay scene, with thousands of revellers still out partying from the night before. And those who don’t go to Sleaze often head out to make the most of the fact Monday is a public holiday.
This year’s official Sleaze recovery is at Arq nightclub from 8am. As well as a long list of DJs playing throughout the day and night, Arq also boasts the drawcard of a live performance by Australian Idol star Paulini in the evening.
Arq’s promotions manager Michael Slavin said Sleaze weekend is always huge for the club and takes around a month to prepare for. It’s so busy because there’s a lot of people here from out of town who hang around for a few days, Slavin said. And traditionally the night after Sleaze has always just been a great night.
Midnight Shift Club also opens at 8am on Sunday and is hosting the Classic Anthems recovery party with popular DJ Ruby. Later that night the Shift has their Indulgence party from 10pm.
Queer Nation at the sprawling Home nightclub is always a long-weekend favourite and this one, called Nice And Sleazy, guarantees to be a lot of fun -“ it’s on from 10pm. Meanwhile Fag Tag at The Chinese Laundry is also certain to be a hit with the theme Summer In LA from 9pm.
Apart from these big special events nearly all the gay venues around town will be in recovery mode. Flinders Bar, the closest venue to Sleaze at Fox Studios, opens its doors at 6am. For those looking to get down and dirty don’t go past Manacle’s day party Bent from 7am or Phoenix at 8am. In the evening Phoenix is holding Darling Hz from 10pm.
Have a cocktail while perving over Taylor Square at Middle Bar’s Sleazebag party from 10am, or relax in the comfortable confines of The Colombian from 8am. Also check out the newly refurbished Odyssey House from 5pm.
For something a little bit different go to the funky Spin Off at Mars Lounge from 7pm, or the slightly alternative Club Kooky at Club 77, which opens at 10pm. Meanwhile lesbian strip club Gurlesque is on at @Newtown from 6pm.
