The artist formerly known as Michal Nicolas is now going by the moniker of Sassin. But it’s not only his name that has changed. His style of music has also had a makeover.

Best known for making dance music, which was especially popular in Europe, the Sydney-based singer songwriter has now branched out into more mainstream pop. It’s something he’s been dreaming of doing for years and it’s a move which seems to have paid off.

His single Xtraordinary, released here last month, received regular airplay on radio station Nova and performed well on the charts. There’s now another single on the way and an album due for release in March.

Things are really starting to happen with this single, Sassin said.

I’ve always been into pop music and now I get to do it.

Although he’s been in the business for seven years, he said, To a lot of people I’m a brand new artist, they haven’t heard of me before. But that certainly looks set to change.

Sassin wrote the single Xtraordinary and a number of other tracks for the album in New York with remixer and producer Mike Rizzo, who has also worked with Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears, Whitney Houston and Deborah Cox.
