Sauna goes mainstream

In what has been touted as an Australian first, a Melbourne sex-on-premises venue has commissioned a television advertisement to encourage bisexual men into the facility.

Produced by Damien Kimber and directed by Andrew Shaw, the 60-second advertisement should appear on commercial television stations in Victoria around the middle of June.

The ad was shot at the Builders Arms Hotel in Fitzroy and at Wet on Wellington, which commissioned it, starring Frank Bonnici, Adam Hamilton (pictured in a scene from the advert), Amara Miles and Tracey Shung.

Kimber said the project was the first of its kind in Australia and only the third in the world.

Only two others promoting a male-to-male sex venue have been shown, he said.

First in the US and then in the UK, which was withdrawn due to public condemnation.

He said the advert was aimed squarely at bisexual men who did not identify with the gay community but wanted somewhere to find other men.

It shows a place where same-sex-attracted men can get together and enjoy themselves, Mr Kimber said.

Get Wet! director Andrew Shaw said the film aimed to show a contrast between the noisy and crowded environment of a pub with a quiet sexiness of a sex-on-premises venue.

It would have been easy to do something sleazy and raunchy,  Shaw said.

But this concept gets the message across with a certain subtlety and humour.  It’s still sexy.
