Strike it lucky down the alley

The Amigos gay ten-pin bowling club is looking for people to join their league, for a social yet competitive season.

Amigos secretary Ian Wilby is trying to entice up to 20 players to join the league for the upcoming series.

They can be of any skill level. They can be total novices, it doesn’t really matter, they just have to be able to commit to a season, which runs for about 20 weeks, he said.

The Amigos play once a week on Wednesdays from 7.45pm to 9.30pm. Players compete in groups of two, making it a fast paced league.

We play in singles so that people don’t spend three quarters of their time sitting on the side lines, Wilby said.

So we accept couples who want to enter, but if you’re a single, we’ll set you up in a team.

I think previously people thought that because of the singles games that they couldn’t join if they were in a couple, or otherwise they thought that it was some sort of cruising night. Well neither is true.

It’s a great, healthy sport that can be played indoors, that allows you to accumulate skills over years of practice -“ though from my experience, the first 20 years are the hardest.
