Sunday Slut

Last Saturday and Sunday saw the annual ACON Red Ribbon Working Bee held at the Masonic Lodge in the city, hosted by what I like to call her, The Charity Queen From New Orleans, Claire de Lune. The total ribbons made were over 64,000, which is an amazing effort considering those bloody pins are so tiny. Sunday was the bigger turn-out and I dropped in so that Claire could race off to the ARIAs. There was a bottle of champagne for the table that topped the 5,000-ribbon mark, so it soon seemed more of a tactical race than a working bee, with bags of ribbons stashed in every conceivable place ready to be brought out when the finish line was close.

A huge thanks must go out to everyone who volunteered their time at both Saturday’s and Sunday’s working bee. I think quite a few first-timers where surprised at how much fun it actually is. The bar was open so we needed to keep an eagle eye on some of the ribbon production when the combination of booze and creative flair started to come through.

After the working bee had wrapped up, off I waddled with partner in crime Few-sha and my long-time dancing partner Benjy to my venue du jour, Hugo’s Camp Sunday, for a few cocktails. Oh, I have missed you, Benjy!

Let’s face it, when it came to venue-hopping last Sunday, I was a slut. Next stop was the new Odyssey Lounge (where old 191 used to be). Wow, such a fab club hidden right smack bang in the middle of everything! I had a hoot -“ I thought I looked like a fairy princess spinning like a top on the dancefloor. But sitting here thinking about it now, it may have been more like a huge pink bean bag that everyone has had a sit on.

By this stage my feet were killing me, so we went to Stonewall to wish the fabulous Candy Box a happy 45th birthday (I thought it was just 35, but everyone was saying it was 45). I found out there was no cake, so after a quick skip to Arq, I decide it was time to hit the hay. Who would have thought you could have so much fun on a Sunday without going to church?

EYESPY ToyBox is on this Sunday. Once again, this party shouldn’t be missed. I have been told to let everyone know you can get tickets from www.toyboxparty.com.au. We all know how the boys love to finish the party with a huge bang. Well, wait till you see this one! Don’t run off, stay for the last shebang.

The last couple of visits I have made to Arq haven’t gone down well with me. Granted the shows are always fabulous, but there is just something missing. I popped in last Sunday and was delighted to see Security Queen Kathy Pavlich on the door and later in the evening got to meet David, manager on the door. Both made me feel extremely welcome and lifted the level of the club. Good move, Arq.
