Sydney 2002 administration continues

The wash-up from the Sydney 2002 Gay Games continues. The board of the organisation still exists, it’s still in administration, and some creditors are still waiting on their cheques.

The headaches continue, also, for Sydney 2002 co-chairs Bev Lange and Peter Bailey, who have maintained their roles as directors of the company.

This week, Lange told Sydney Star Observer that she and Bailey would participate in the administration process until its end, which is likely to be some time in 2004.

Rumours currently circulating also suggest Qantas (a major sponsor of the Games) are suing Lange and Bailey. When asked to confirm whether this was the case, Lange replied: No comment.

Lange said the Sydney 2002 Gay Games set a benchmark for the delivery of the Gay Games in the future. The Games also created more gay and lesbian sporting teams and a lot more interest in gay and lesbian sport, she said.
