Talent quest

The Three Sisters Social Group Inc will be taking the Queen’s Birthday to a new level when they present their annual Disco and Talent Quest. The event will take place on Saturday 7 June at the Blackheath Community Hall. The event kicks off at 7.15pm and entry is $20. Music will be by Sound Affair. The night will be hosted by Beverly Buttercup and Tora Hymen. Prospective entrants should contact 0433 232 425.

WINTER BALL

The White Winter Glitter Ball will take place at the Peppers Fairmount Resort Leura. The event starts at 7pm and tickets are $110. Champagne will be served on arrival followed by a three-course dinner. The band Catch 33 will also perform. The dress code is costume or black tie. For more details call 8230 0889.

STONING MARY

The Frogbattleship and Griffin Theatre Company will be presenting the Australian premiere season of Stoning Mary by Debbie Tucker Green from Wednesday 28 May. The play is directed by Lee Lewish and is a discomfittingly relevant play for our times that taps into the current political debate about our relationship to Africa. The playwright seeks to challenge our perception of events in Africa by taking stories from African newspaper articles, and re-setting them in our own cities with a cast of white characters. ACTING COURSES

For the first time in 2008, the Actors College of Theatre and Television has created a second chance for all those interested in pursuing training in the performing arts with the opening of mid-year enrolments for their highly regarded Advanced Diploma of Arts in Stage and Screen Acting. Auditions are open now for this course which commences on 4 August. For all those who do not wish to commit to full-time study at this stage, mid-year enrolments are also now open for the part-time course, which commences on 28 July. Details: www.actt.edu.au.

SUNDAY FUN

The Pacific Opera combines with the exciting chamber choir Bel A Cappella and a 20-piece orchestra for Voices On Sunday. This show will be held on Sunday 25 May at 2.30pm at the Independent Theatre in North Sydney for one performance only. Eleven new and talented young artists will perform a wonderful and varied program ranging from Handel through Wagner, Verdi and Lehar.
