Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s George!

Everybody’s favourite coverboy -“ he’s graced two issues of DNA and Paul Freeman’s Bondi Classic -“ is helping the Gay And Lesbian Rights Lobby launch their parade float, which is themed Same-Sex Superheros.

Lobby co-convenor Somali Cerise explained the main purpose of the superhero theme is to draw attention to the inequalities surrounding superannuation for same-sex couples. However, it will also highlight issues such as families, discrimination, relationship recognition and violence.

The Howard government has demonstrated nothing but a recalcitrant attitude when it comes to lesbian and gay equality, Cerise said. While most states have forged ahead with law reform we have had no gains from the federal arena for many years. It’s important to send a message to all political parties to inform about issues that affect us.

The float will be made up of around 80 men and women, some of whom will be dressed as superheros and others will be the mild-mannered citizens.
