Tribute to the fairies

The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Choir will embrace their inner fairy this Mardi Gras as they sprinkle a special dust of camp tunes and remarkable costumes when they stage Henry Purcell’s take on Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream in The Fairy Queen.

The Fairy Queen is a baroque opera which contains some of the period’s most beautiful arias and high-energy choruses. The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Choir and principal artists will be accompanied by the Sydney Chamber Orchestra including a harpsichord, said humble chorus fairy Andrew Dunn.

The Fairy Queen is an opportunity to hear Sydney’s emerging professional opera soloists in a fully-staged production of a rarely performed opera.

info: The Fairy Queen is at the Tom Mann Theatre from Thursday 19 to Saturday 21 February. Tickets start at $50. Bookings on 1300 306 776.
