UK DJ Matt Darey’s selection

Each week we ask a DJ to tell us their current favourite tracks and why. We spoke to visiting UK DJ Matt Darey as he prepared to play at Arq tonight (Thursday 15 April). Matt is resident DJ at UK clubs Euphoria and Nowhere.

No One On Earth

(Gabriel and Dresdon Mix), Above and Beyond
Gabriel and Dresdon have always rated highly in my opinion for their remix of Paul Oakenfold’s Southern Sun and Sarah McLachlan’s Fallen. This time Above and Beyond provide a vocal which starts off sounding like a very left-of-centre Bj?melody and breaks into a euphoric Space Brothers vs Chakra chorus. With the minimal and spacey backdrop of a typical G&D production, this track takes you on a deeper journey into the realms of understated but uplifting trance.

Shine A Light

(Introspective Mix), Atomic Hooligan
Not normally an act found on the trance pages, but this has all the structure and melody of a great uplifting trancer. The Introspective Mix brings on the breaks but fits perfectly within one of my sets with its Chemical Brothers vs Rich Ashcroft vocal, massive anthemic breakdown and a bit of acid storm thrown in for dancefloor satisfaction. This is a fine example of how two diverse styles can blend and work on the trance floor.

Miss A Day

ATN
This is one of those tracks that overflow with emotion in the melody. A piece of classical trance with massive arpeggio riffs, running bass-lines to keep the energy flowing and lush female vocals in a similar vein to Paul Van Dyk’s Nothing But You. Soul-stirring stuff and one to get you jumping up and down.

Love Comes Again

(Original Mix 4/5), Tiesto Featuring BT
BT and Tiesto create an epic tune with a mix of Faithless production and Chicane vs Bryan Adams vocals. Together with chunky house beats, bass-lines and edgy sounds, it’s gonna crossover into both the house and trance clubs across the globe. The vocal hook coupled with the two big names might even cross this into the mainstream.

Sunday Afternoon

G&M Project
This track has been rocking the trance floors for me all over the globe. There have been a few versions but this is the one that brings it all together in a pumping but well-produced format. Guaranteed to get the people jumping every time.
