Attorney-General Robert McClelland’s meetings with the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby and other activists in recent weeks has introduced hope for an advisory committee on GLBT issues.

“McClelland said the government will be looking to begin a series of reforms as early as this winter” GLRL co-convenor Emily Gray said.

The AG department has been working on identifying further discriminatory laws, including the additional 40 revealed recently, but has been reluctant to give a timeframe on further work.

Equality didn’t make the list of 106 future commitments for the Rudd Government in the 100 Days in Office report released last week.

A spokesman from Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s office said the published commitments reflected only “key priorities” for the moment, but was not exhaustive.
