Women finding help in a group

A new course of ACON-led group therapy sessions is set to begin for same-sex attracted women looking for a safe space to explore issues of intimacy and other concerns.

Running for 12 weeks from February 25, the sessions will take a loose approach to topics covered to allow women space to talk about their issues and concerns, said ACON’s counselling coordinator Ann-Maree Rundle.

The group is not totally structured, we don’t have an agenda or fixed program that we deliver. What happens in the group is really in response to what the participants bring, she explained.

The group is experiential, so they provide an opportunity for people to increase their awareness of how they are in the world.

Aimed at combating the rising rates of women in the community who suffer from depression and self-esteem problems, the sessions are free and confidential.

Interested participants will be interviewed to ensure their suitability for the program, and will need to commit to the program for the full 12-week duration.
