You know it’s a little bit Dangerous

You know it’s a little bit Dangerous

She’s transformed one of Sydney’s standard inner-western pubs into the Wednesday night of the week and brought girl to boy drag out of small women’s bars.

She is Sexy Galexy, one of the stars of Arq’s Dangerous, a full-on Friday night drag showcase with something for everybody.

Along with fabulous king D-Vinyl and equally fabulous queen Dallas Dellaforce, Sexy is in control of the first three shows at Dangerous, before Portia Turbo and her three dancers take over. And Sexy says she loves performing to the Dangerous crowd of men and women.

In some ways I feel like I’m a poof in a woman’s body, Sexy says. I don’t want to just perform in a backroom in front of 50 women if there’s 300 men dancing their arses off in the main room.

Sexy hosts a pick-a-box competition at 10pm, which has to be seen to believed. At 11pm she joins D-Vinyl and Dallas for spot shows and at midnight for a production show, a dazzling kooky fantasy of not-seen-before proportions.

Portia Turbo, who gets on stage at 1am and 3am, says Dangerous has some of the best shows that you’ll see in Sydney right now.

They’re so full of energy, Portia says.

We have three incredibly beautiful boys. Marcello Costa -“ who is famous around the world as a ballet dancer, and commercial dancer who’s also with Bondi Ballet at the moment. Michael Boyd, who has been with the Queensland Ballet, choreographed for the Bondi Ballet, has been a model in Milan -“ worked all through Australia for people like Peter Morrissey. And of course Ian Knowles, who’s not only famous in the gay community. He has produced stuff for everybody and he’s done just about everything.

And also the girls downstairs -“ everybody’s talking about their show and saying great things about it.

Part of the secret to the shows being so, well, fabulous is the choice of accompanying music, Portia says.

It’s not the stuff you see everywhere in the gay community. We’re a little bit rockier -“ last week we put together Marcia Hines’s Jumping Jack Flash -“ a really full-on speeded-up version of that. It’s something people haven’t seen Portia doing for years -“ keeping up with three professional dancers. It’s been a long time since I’ve been thin, young and gorgeous but one of three isn’t bad.

Early Dangerous music is provided by DJ Sveta (she’s just so good right now, Portia says) and the gorgeous Dave Smith. And the crowd contains just about everybody.

I like the fact that the boys and girls are integrating, Portia says.

It’s not just your muscle-bound body boy with 10 Es in his pocket. It’s people who just want to come and have a drink, and have a good time. You know, it’s Friday night so people can come and let their hair down without having to go to too much gym trouble.

Dangerous is held in the Vortex at Arq Sydney on Friday nights. Entry is free before 11pm, $10 after.
