You won’t be the only gay in the village

Team Sydney is bringing a special collection of clubs together at Fair Day to encourage people to participate in all sorts of sports.

To be known as the Sports Village, a diverse collection of clubs will be conducting events or running stalls with the latest sports information.

Perhaps it is time you ran along to Frontrunners, got set up instead of upset by the Freezoners at volleyball, ruggered by the Convicts rugby club, bounced by the Spectres Basketballs, mesmerised by the Stingers waterpolo players (come on who wouldn’t – they’re in Speedos!), flippered by SUBS underwater, centred by the Snakes netballers, learned how to handle Bentstix on the hockey field, got some real head with the Flying Bats or Rangers soccer clubs, learnt what a baseball bat used to be for at the Sydney Women’s Baseball League stall, did a little cruising with the Australian Cruising Yacht Club, saw a GLMA of hope in the world of martial arts, or considered heading to Copenhagen or Cologne for international sporting events in 2009 and 2010.

Member clubs will provide a swimming event in conjunction with Victoria Park Pool – the Wett Ones equivalent of the Frontrunners’ Little Black Dress Run.

If you want to join in this hilarious swimming relay with a very noticeable and public difference, please contact Megan from the Wett Ones: [email protected].

For those in our community who really pack a punch, it is time to get into training for the Team Sydney Tug Of War.

The social category allows those who are slightly built the opportunity to really dig their heels in, while the seriously competitive must take on the current champions – the Convicts Rugby Club – in the competitive event.

Entries should be sent to Jeffrey So via the Team Sydney website: [email protected].

The best reason to visit the village is that sports people are a gregarious, outgoing bunch who are fantastic eye candy.

There will be membership specials, events to join in – such as the passing competition – and social volleyball.

Don’t miss out on the displays or demonstrations that are happening – be assured that we will look good doing it.

Contact sports people via the Team Sydney “Out Doing It” website: www.teamsydney.org.au.
