New video explains plan to get marriage equality over the line

A NEW video outlining what work needs to be done to achieve marriage equality whether by a plebiscite or free vote in parliament has just been released.

In the video titled 2016: Let Love Win, Australian Marriage Equality (AME) representatives Alex Greenwich and Shirleene Robinson outline the path forward to achieving the law reform with a three point plan.

[showads ad=MREC] The plan is:

1. Win the handful of votes still required to have a majority in parliament by running grassroots campaigns in key electorates.

2. Show a plebiscite will be costly and unnecessary.

3. Win a plebiscite if one is held by mobilising supporters, particularly in regional Australia, in the business community and among people of faith.

“Our plan and the support of grass roots advocates across Australia will help make 2016 the year love wins,” AME national director Rodney Croome said.

“We are charting a path to achieve marriage equality as soon as possible and not waiting around for a plebiscite to be called.

“I urge all supporters of reform to share our video and let us know how they would like to contribute.”

  1. I am boycotting the federal election this year because of the prerequisite for marriage equality. I have had it, we have been ignored for far too long! I want to form a micro-nation called “Travistacountry”, so gay couples have a place within Australia to marry. I have a 6600 acre property near Yass I want to declare a micro-nation sometime at the end of the year. My brother is gay and helps me run the property occasionally in Yass. We are so happy that he was one of the few to Marry in Canberra, before the corrupt federal government took that away a couple of years ago! Now he lives in Penrith in the big smoke. I am 30 years old now and have gotten sick and tired of very corrupt federal governments in Canberra, I stopped listening now to what they have to say. My brother is a hard working man, and he is denied the right to marry, while some corrupt rich and very lazy politician, who molests adults and kids has more of a right to get married – something is seriousely very wrong in Canberra!

  2. Marriage (Bigots and Lawmakers Prohibition) Bill 2016

    1. This legislation comes into effect from the day of royal assent.

    2. This legislation binds the crown.

    3. Marriage Act 1961 Schedule 1 –

    (a) any member of the local, state, territory or national Parliament of Australia, is hereby banned from getting married.

    (b) any member or supporter of the Australian christian lobby or the ACL, is herby banned from getting married.

    (c) this also includes a ban for the above sections, from travelling overseas to any other country, to arrange a marriage for these particular groups.

    (d) this legislation expires only after 10 years after enactment.

Note: This is to ensure how lawmakers get a taste of there own medicine for the next 10 years.

    (e) this legislation is retrospective, even after enactment.

    • Add to this marriage ban for politicians and bigots bill:-

“maximum penalty 100 years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000.”

  3. 5 critical votes to go in the House of Representatives! Call your MP right now! This is an election year, and there will be an early election sometime in March 2016! I live in Forbes NSW, so John Cobb from the National party is my local federal MP and he is completely useless! He does not support marriage marriage at all!
