Queensland community programs celebrate anniversary milestones

LAST Saturday saw the birthday celebrations for two Queensland-based LGBTI health organisations, the Queensland AIDS Council (QuAC) and its Indigenous program 2 Spirits.

Established during the AIDS crisis in 1984, QuAC formed from within the LGBTI community and has grown to deliver services on HIV and AIDS and the wider community.

The weekend’s festivities also saw the one of the country’s most successful and respected Indigenous sexual health programs, 2 Spirits, celebrate its 18th anniversary.

After having celebrated their anniversaries in Cairns earlier in the month, Brisbane festivities for the two groups included a party held at QuAC’s headquarters at Newstead.

The crowd comprised of a  cross-section of the LGBTI community and bipartisan political representation, and they were treated to a smorgasbord of Indigenous meals.
