ABODE a top business finalist
St Kilda fetish club ABODE has been nominated as a finalist in the Port Phillip Council’s Business Excellence Awards.
ABODE owner The Colonel told Southern Star Observer he and partner Tracy G are honoured the business has made the top list.
“It’s really nice to be acknowledged by your peers,” he said. “It’s also really great for the alternative community at large to be recognised.”
ABODE is said to be the first and only purpose-built fetish club in Australia that runs on an ongoing basis. The club has an art gallery space, a stage for performances, and club and lounge areas.
It’s understood ABODE’s inclusion is the first time such an alternative business has received mainstream business recognition.
The Colonel said ABODE made the finalists’ circle because it had been proactive in ensuring the local area has remained safe at night and has been incident-free since opening in 2004.
“We are a really safe space and our patrons are respectful of safety,” he said.
Apart from feeling the impact of the recent global financial crisis and an increase in liquor licensing fees, The Colonel said business is good.
ABODE won an ALSO Award in 2008 in the Best Alternative Business category.
The Port Phillip Business Excellence Awards will be announced October 21.
