Friendly local celebrates 15 years

Richmond watering hole DT’s Hotel will celebrate its 15th birthday this weekend.

Owner Bruce McKenzie told Southern Star all are welcome to celebrate the milestone.

“We’ve had a lot of gradual changes since we started but we’ve always been a local corner pub where everyone can sit down and relax,” he said.

McKenzie said the celebrations will start on Friday, May 28 with some great prizes up for grabs including a $300 cash bonanza to make one lucky punter’s day.

Saturday, May 29 is the main party night and DT’s regular Dulcie De Jour — who’s dazzled DT’s drinkers now for 14 years — will take to the stage to blow out the candles and belt out a few celebratory anthems.

McKenzie has been with DT’s since the beginning and said he believes the pub’s longevity is due to it welcoming people from all walks of life to prop up the bar and unwind.

“DT’s is a place where everyone fits in. You might have some leather guys in the corner, women in another corner, trannies in another corner.

“Everyone fits in — that’s been our philosophy for 15 years and that’s the way it still works.”
