Gay dads to meet

Gay dads to meet

Parenting is the hardest job in the world, they say, so GayDadsVic has decided that help is best at hand in twos. The group has joined forces with the Drummond Street Relationship Centre to present a number of catch-up meetings over the coming months.

The meetings are open to all gay guys, regardless of their parenting situation, whether through a straight relationship, surrogacy, co-parenting or fostering.

-œWe want to create a regular opportunity for guys to come together and discuss a range of issues across the whole spectrum of being gay and having children in your life, said coordinator Barry Hahn.

The discussion group was modelled on a New York group for gay and bisexual dads and a variety of parenting topics will be covered, with speakers in various fields of child development.

The group is aiming for an informal look at the issues gay fathers face.

The regular events will be a forum discussion, followed by dinner, on the second Tuesday of the month, beginning November 11.

The first discussion topic is how do we raise happy, balanced children? Guest speaker will be Helen Rimmington who is a parenting educator at the centre. She has also worked at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Centre for Adolescent Health and Parenting Australia, and has two children of her own.

info: 6pm-“7.30pm, every second Tuesday, every two months (dinner held after). First session is Tuesday November 11 at the Drummond Street Relationship Centre, 195 Drummond St, Carlton.
