Marriage debated

Marriage debated

While usually a hot button topic, opposing sides of the gay marriage debate engaged in fairly cordial discussions last week for the launch of new book Why vs Why: Gay Marriage.

The book — launched at Readings Hawthorn —  is part of a new flip-side series by Pantera Press giving equal time to opposing arguments on contentious issues.

Well-known gay rights advocate Rodney Croome (pictured, middle) took on Family Council of Victoria secretary Bill Muehlenberg (left) from the ‘no’ camp, with neither side conceding any ground.

During the debate, Muehlenberg claimed allowing gay marriage would open the door to polyamory, while Croome pointed out this had not happened in other countries and marriage should be between two people.

The discussion was moderated by the ABC’s Damien Carrick and recorded for The Law Report.

  1. Mr Meuhlenburg indeed sounds desperate. the words would have to be more along the lines slippery slope back to… Monogamy by law has been around for less than 900 years. Some research into the whys and wherefores of Monogamy as ordained by god and the 2nd Lateran Council of 1139. I firmly believe that no religious or political group should have any say in the private affairs of consenting adults. Mr Muehlenberg.. Leave Me and my loved ones alone!

  2. Bill Meuhlenberg’s desperate attempt to invoke the fear of the “slippery slope” to polyamory is a laughable attempt to prey on unneccessary fears.
