MELBOURNE’S inner north has a brand new specialist mental health and wellbeing centre for the LGBTI community.

The Mind Equality Centre has opened next door to North Fitzroy’s Northside Clinic.

Run by Mind Australia Limited, the new clinic offers services including counselling and therapy for individuals, couples and families; occupational therapy; legal services and employment services.

The clinic’s staff identify and have extensive experience working with the LGBTI community.

Bulk-billing through Medicare is available for people who have a referral and a mental health treatment plan.

LGBTI people have higher rates of mental health issues than the general community, with gay or bi people twice as likely to have a mental health condition. People who are intersex are almost twice as likely to be diagnosed with depression as the general community, and trans or gender diverse people are almost five times as likely.

If you need help with a mental health issue, you can also call beyondblue on 1300 224 636 or Lifeline on 13 11 14.
