Nobel HIV prediction
One of the two teams with a claim to discovering HIV as the cause of AIDS has predicted a vaccine could be available by 2012.
Just a day after sharing this year’s Nobel prize for medicine, French scientist Luc Montagnier has been quoted in a British newspaper predicting a -œtherapeutic vaccine for AIDS would be available by 2012.
The French scientific team’s honour has renewed interest in the Franco-American rivalry to the claim of who discovered HIV. An American team headed by Robert Gallo was announced as co-discoverers after an out-of-court agreement between the two country’s governments.
