Tell us your favourite festival

Here at the Star we are interested to find out which of Australia’s gay and lesbian festivals is your favourite.

There are so many great festivals – both small and large popping up – and we want to know your thoughts.

Is it Mardi Gras or Midsumma? Perhaps you love ChillOut more? Maybe you head to Big Gay Day in Brisbane every year or hang at Tropical Fruits?

So we’ve started a poll on our website (bottom left) so you can tell us.

We’ve given you a selection of the biggest and best-known to choose from.

But, if you think we’ve missed a great festival, we’d love to hear more about it. Email your thoughts to [email protected].

We’re looking forward to hearing from you!

  1. Melbourne Queer Film Festival wins by a nose from Midsumma Fair Day and Pride March. Melbourne, you do fabulous festival!

  2. MQFF – that’s Melbourne Queer Film Festival – is by far my fave festival. Shame I only get to vote ‘other’….

  3. MQFF is by far my favorite festival ever!!! I CAN’T believe you left it off the list!! Very disappointed.

  4. Melbourne Queer Film Festival (MQFF) for me. Good films, great bunch of volunteers that run it. That makes an excellent festival.

  5. I voted for other as it didn’t include Australias largest queer film festival. It’s such an amazing festival for our community and it is very much a part of a thinking/creative queer culture. It just gets better each year. Would love to see it on the next poll for fav festivals.

  6. I have to agree with Robert. Melbourne Queer Film Festival is huge fest, internationally recognised… and more importantly everyone bloody loves it. The film-goers love it, the vollies love it – even the staff at ACMI love having the festival there.

  7. For something completely different, my vote is for MQFF – a stand-alone festival in itself, not attached to another big festival like some others in comparable cities and having just completed it’s 20th year of films earlier this year.

  8. Spring Migration shame that was left out specially when the festival itself has won 2 community acheivement Awards 2008 and 2009.But quite a few others were left out as well Southern Hybearnation,Northern Exposure, vic film festival,Leather pride,So i guess we are all just the OTHERS

  9. I’m with David Adams on this one. My “other” festival that i would vote for, is the Leather Pride Festival, Melbourne or Sydney and I also feel that it is deserving of being named as one of the best festivals this country has seen. Congratulations to the organisers and attendees for such a well organised, informative festival.

  10. my vote go’s to Spring Migration is a Gay and Lesbian Festival for ALL!
Everyone can attend regardless of sexuality, It is one of the many festivals held in Australia and it Country a real Australian Festival
Held annually in North East Victoria, Australia. Check out our website at http://www.springmigration.com.au for full details.

  11. I’ve just voted in the “favourite festival” and discovered with “other” there was no opportunity to post the name of the festival, yet “other” attracted 10% of the votes so far puttoing it on a par with mardi gras and the South Australian Fest.

I’m sure we are not all voting for the same “other’
My “other” is the Melbourne Leather Pride Festival and feel that is deserving of being named.

  12. My favourite is the Melbourne Pride March!!!
After attending a number of country festivals, being run by very dedicated people demonstrating their GL pride and commitment from our rural areas I am surprised at their omission from the list.
I think Mardi Gras has become nothing but a sellout of the gay community for the expoitation by the corporates !!!
