More than 4000 votes have been cast for the ALSO Awards so far, with voting closing at 5pm today.

ALSO Foundation CEO Crusader Hillis said he was pleased with the voting numbers and tickets to the event were selling well.

“We’re looking forward to a great night,” he said. “There aren’t too many tickets left, so we’re doing well at this stage.”

Tickets are still available for the awards night which will be held on Monday, June 28 at St Kilda’s National Theatre.

The Greyhound Hotel in St Kilda will host the official awards after-party with drinks specials from 10pm to 11.30pm for those who want to celebrate a win or drown their sorrows.

The final line-up includes: comedian Hannah Gadsby; cabaret performer Benn Bennett; magician Cath Jamieson; drag performers Tabitha Turlington and Rocco D’Amore; the Melbourne Gay and Lesbian Youth Chorus; Dolly Diamond and Luke Gallagher; acrobats Circus Tricktease; performer Franklyn James; Constantina Bush and The Bushettes and Sensation.

Kaye Sera and Mr Leather Australia/New Zealand 2009 Josh Burrows will present awards, along with Olympic swimming champion Daniel Kowalski.

This year’s awards are divided into two categories so both the public and a judging panel decide on the final winners.

The panel — appointed by the ALSO Foundation and made up of leaders in the community — meets this week to decide on winners in nine categories.

Panel members received an information dossier on each candidate to guide their vote.

Winners of the 13 awards open to the public will be ‘first past the post’.

The awards initially received more than 800 nominations across the 22 award categories.

Tickets to the pink carpet event are $40 full, $30 for ALSO members and $25 concession.

Tickets booked in groups of eight or more are $30 each. Booking fee is $2.50.
